Trailer length - 1.07mins
Shot by shot description.
- green screen rating card stating information that the trailer has been deemed suitable for release to mass audiences
- Disney castle is shown with a shooting star
- Pixar logo is shown with the renowned lamp looking up towards screen
- a door is shown in a dark room with a narrator speaking over the shot being shown
-the door opens and an unidentified creature glides across the room. The camera follows the creature.
- the creature stands up as he displays his claws and his eyes glow red as he leers over a bed.
- the creature pulls back the bed covers to reveal a small green monster surrounded by varied possessions who is sleeping.
- we then see the once scary blue creature holding a bottle of 'glew' as we presume he prepares for some kind of prank.
- the next shot displays many different monsters having what we resume to be a party as they make lots of noise, climb around the hallways and throw around colourful decorations.
- the green monster then awakens and opens the door as we see that the blue monster has glued reflective squares all over the monsters body.
- the next shot shows all the other monsters crowding round him as they comment on his appearance.
- the next part of the prank is then revealed as the large blue monster turns of the hallway lights and a bright spotlight is directed at the green monster covered in the reflective squares. This creates a disco ball effect and all the other monsters begin to dance around in a comedic fashion.
- we then see a title information screen as it stars that the film is enrolling in 2013
-The next shot shows the green monster strapped to a ceiling fan causing him to spin slowly. This is accompanied by the rest of the monsters dancing to slow music as the large blue monster takes a picture of the smaller green monster.
- the final shot shows the 'Monsters University' logo and the website address.
Value of Task
We were set this task so that we would realise just how many shots of differnt kinds are involved in a trailer. It does not matter that the one I looked at is not in the genre of the piece I will end up doing because it still works to normal trailer rules. This task took a long time because writing down every shot in a trailer means you have to stop and rewind all the time. It makes it really clear that shots are not on screen for very long at all and that even though this trailer only lasts just over a minute, it is packed with content. When we storyboard our own trailer, we need to make sure that we are including sufficient shots with enough variety.
